Hockey Family in Need

I received this via Kathy McEntee…

To All,

As in any family, when one family member needs help, the rest of the family is there for them. Sadly, one of our “hockey family” members needs our help now more than ever. Ben Stear, a current Glaciers Midget Minor and CB South player suffered a broken neck during a game at Faceoff this past Saturday. He has underwent surgery, and is currently in Jefferson Hospital facing a difficult recovery.

I am collecting donations for the Stear family to help with their many expenses during this difficult time.
Please give whatever you can, and please forward this e-mail to any other sports family in your address book. I also ask everyone to keep Ben in their prayers.

All money raised will be used to purchase pre-loaded VISA cards for the Stears to use as they need. Checks should be made out to me so I can purchase the cards. (if you prefer, checks can be made out directly to Ben’s dad Ken Stear, but I feel it would be much easier if he didn’t have to worry about going back and forth to the bank)

Please send all donations to :    Jim McKenzie
406 Merion Dr.
Newtown, PA 18940

Or, if you  prefer I can arrange a pick up.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Sincerely,

Jim McKenzie

Puck Tracker Coming Back

Why??

If you are any hockey fan of any sorts, you should be outraged. I guess VS. forgot about the 90′s?

As per USA Today:

Versus might take shot at puck tracking for NHL telecasts

The NHL and cable TV partner Versus are talking about introducing “puck-tracking” technology as early as the 2008-09 season, executives from the network and the league told USA TODAY.

Tracking would make it easier for TV viewers to follow the fast-moving puck. But the idea brought back memories of Fox’s “glowing puck” experiment from 1996-98. It got mixed reviews, with some players and coaches complaining the internal electronics of the “FoxTrax” puck made it play differently. When ABC picked up the NHL’s broadcast rights in 1998, the idea was junked.

Want to see what the new puck tracker will look like?

Visit the No Puck Tracker Online Petition and tell them we don’t want it!!!

Here we go.

Pens vs. Flyers

Most of you know, I majored in journalism and psychology in college which lands me at my present job.  The reason I left Journalism was the fact that I find it hard to be unbiased about hot topics, news, etc.
That being said:

Let’s Go Flyers!!!!

(PS: C Team, someone email me some deats and some pics from your tourney so i can post)

Who is advancing in the East?

Pens(2) v. Rangers (5)

The Pens won it in easy fashion and the NY Rangers didn’t have much of a battle themselves. Who will win that game? Has Crosby sit around too much staring at himself in the mirror? Did the Penguins get too much rest?  Will Sean Avery move from the sin bin? Will Gomez continue to put up numbers, which he hasnt done all season?

the other battle
Flyers (6) v. Habs (1)
Two teams that went to 7. I give them both credit for getting this far. Briere comes into the series with the highest points among playoff players this year with 11. Montreal comes in with the best power play in the league. Will their Rookie goalie be able to keep their dreams alive? The Flyers are 0-4 this season against the frenchies, but remember Biron was 0-5 in back to back games this season when he clinched game 7 against the Caps.

Finally Tally

The UWHL season came to a final end last weekend.  The D team matched up against the White Lightning in the first game of the playoffs and lost 2-1. It was a tight game that could of gone either way, but the White Lightning came out on top.

Day 2, the Hawks faced the Flames in a battle of 3rd and 4th place. The Hawks won 3-1.

The final standings
1. CP Blades
2. WC White Lightning
3. Hawks
4. Flames

Unfortunatly, the C Hawks didn’t get to play in the playoffs this year, but I’m sure next year will be a different story!

The Mid-C or White Division went to the Philadelphia Freeze.

The High C or Blue Division went to the Delaware Phoenix.

Each Hawks team has tournaments and exhibition games over the summer, so while the UWHL season has come to a close, the Hawks still have many games to play!
