The game will be held on January 18, 2008 @ 2pm at the Spectrum. Afterwards, you can enjoy the Phantoms vs. Norfolk Admirals.

D Hawks top Flames 2-0; Cindy extends shut-out streak to 3 games

The D Hawks traveled to Aston for a league game against the Concord Flames. Before the game started, both teams ended up rather confused. UWHL teams play three 15 minute periods. The referees started the game with 13 minutes on the clock. Both teams protested, but they did not listen until the start of the 2nd. The confusion continued when the Ref #2 started calling icing from the defensive blue line instead of the red-line. When questioned, she stated that she reffed 2 games earlier with icing being considered when the defensive team dumps the puck at their own blue line to the other end of the ice. No one knew what she was talking about, but she changed her ideals and icing became normal again.

Nancy Mills ended up in the box after the ref called hooking. Ref #2, who made the call, stated, “I saw hooking, but I don’t know who did it.”

Due to the constant chatting with the refs and cold feet suffered by both teams, the first period ended 0-0.

The D Hawks warmed up a little for the next period. On a penalty kill in the second, Jane Anastasia scored the first goal for the Hawks on a breakaway. Michelle Sauerbaum added the second goal, assisted by Tracey Churray to end the game 2-0.

The defense continues to play well by keeping the puck in the offensive zone and by making sure the puck stays to the perimeter of the rink.

Cindy extended her shut out streak to three, two in league play.

Next league action: 11/1 home against the Bridgewater Wings 8:55pm, 11/2 at Patriots (exhibition team) 5:15pm

Delaware Phoenix edge C Hawks by 1 goal

The C team faced off against the Delaware Phoenix last night in league play. Carla Hojnacki scored the first goal for the Hawks. Pam Batz continued her excellent play by scoring 3 goals for a hat trick to put the Hawks within one goal.

The Hawks wished they could of prevented a goal by the Phoenix that went off of Michelle McCauley’s helmet.

With one minute left in the game, the Hawks pulled the goalie hoping to tie it up, but unfortunatley the Hawks couldn’t put one in and the game ended with the score 5-4.

The Pheonix had 28 shots on Judy McCauley while the Hawks threw 15 pucks at the Pheonix goaltender.

The C Hawks are in action next 11/2/08 at Delaware Bobcats at 3:10pm.

And so it begins..

The C Hawks opened up their season with a win in exhibition play against the Bethlehem Thrashers. Natalie Capozzi led the team with 2 goals. Carla Hojnacki, Pam Batz and Deb Kalman all hit the back of the net. Gisele posted two assists and the defense did a great job of keeping the puck in the offensive end for a total score of 5-1.

The D Hawks opened their season with a tie against long time rivals, the Central Penn Blades. It was a back and forth match with 2 goals coming from Carla Hojnacki. Judi Elliot and Tracey Churray also scored. Carla Honjacki, Lisa Larkin, and Kathy McEntee tallied assists. Brigid Balsham comitted the only Hawks pentaly which was successfully killed.

The following week, visitors from down south, the Baltimore Blizzard graced the D Hawks with their presence. Cindy posted her first shutout of the season. Lisa Larkin opened up the scoring in the first period assisted by Michelle Sauerbaum. Kathy McEntee scored the next goal in style, by diving for the puck and putting it past the goalie in mid-air. Deb Nowicki tallied the assist. Michelle Sauerbaum and Lisa LeBlanc also added goals to finish the game 4-0. Brenda Schrecengost and Tori Waskiewicz scored the assists.
